I love games (wrote a blog about them for a little while several years back), but they're such a frustrating thing sometimes. I feel like successful game art--where the gameplay, sound, visual art, and narrative all bleed into and support each other--is one of the most exciting things imaginable. But it takes so long to assess them! Paintings you can experience in a handful of minutes, albums in an hour, films in a few hours, books in a few days...but games take days at the minimum, and sometimes weeks or even months (from when you start to when you finish, not solely playing time). And I have a hard time disengaging partway through even when I can see that brilliance won't be in the offing. Sure, there's incredible excitement like with Super Metroid or MGS 3, but there's a lot more disappointments.
